John Simons was my best friend. I always referred to him as “Lou.” We were fraternity brothers at UCLA. He was both physically strong and also courageous. He feared nothing. I really admired him as a man, a husband, and a father. I miss him terribly.

What a generous spirit! John helped my husband and I get into our first home, taking that extra time to make sure our dreams were realized. Then, he offered the most beautiful gift when we closed escrow. A man of character and principle is how I will remember him. Blessings to the family during this difficult time.

We will always remember his caring leadership and guidance in our group of parents, and we so highly admired the love he lavished on his family. John remains as a shining example for us all.

December 7, 2010

To Maureen, the Simons children, the grandchildren, and everyone:
John (or Lou as I knew him) was my fraternity brother at UCLA and the very dearest of my friends for more than 50 years. In my mind, he was the strongest person (both physically and morally) that I have ever known. If there was one overriding thought that I will have about him, it is this: Wherever I went with him, I always "felt safe." He was intensely loyal to his friends and he literally saved me from numerous bad situations when I got out-of-line in our younger days. Of course, several times, he did chastise me after-the-fact when those incidents were over. I have no doubt that Maureen and the 7 children know exactly what I mean when I say that John (Lou) had the quality of making one "feel safe." He let no one mess around with his family or his friends (like me). I miss him so much. . . .

God bless you, Old Friend.

While it may have been a while since I last saw John, my memories of him will always be the same; A good man, The stature of what a Father should be, and a true and loving husband. Lastly, his competitive spirit shall remain within my fond memories of him, forever.
