Mary D. Baker

May 11, 1927 - July 1, 2013

Mary Catherine Dye was born in Lincoln, Nebraska, to Iva "Pearl" Hazelton and Walter "Scott" Dye, the younger sister of Dene Louise Pierce (deceased). "Peppy Mary" graduated from Univ. of Nebraska with Honors in Education and a Masters degree and was especially active in her AOPi sorority and women's honor society, Mortar Board. On her 21st birthday, she married fellow student, Robert Lee Baker (deceased).

After Bob finished his PhD in 1955, they moved with their children, Katherine and Scott to Arizona where Bob was a professor at ASU and Mary was Librarian and Director of Volunteers for the Arizona Foundation for Blind Children. She also continued as an alum to mentor AOPi chapters in Arizona and served as Western Section Leader for Mortar Board.

In 1968, they followed Bob's work to Southern California, settling in Palos Verdes Estates, where they lived for 45 years. In addition to working 12 years in her own corporate event planning business, Mary gave decades of service to the Palos Verdes Library District, was an avid Marine League tennis player, and served in various planning capacities for the PV Golf and Tennis Clubs, including as president of the Tennis Club in the mid-80s.

Mary is survived by her children, Katherine with husband, Henry Caroselli, and Scott with wife, Laurie; six grandchildren, and five great-grandchildren. She is also survived by Bob's siblings, Bill Baker and Betsy Peck and their families, and Dene's daughters, Sue Giles and Sally Von Summer and their families.
