Obituary Condolences

Mary Elizabeth Bean (nee Rehers)

January 10, 1918 - April 10, 2014

She was Bettie to her family and numerous friends.

A very rare lady. She was my mother's sister and I've known her all my life. She was kind, loving, funny, caring, interesting, and interested in the lives of my brothers and sister. Bettie loved us and taught us important things, fun things, and trivial things - like how to properly wrap a present.

She had a wonderful life. In her many years working in Southern California thoroughbred racing, she came to know, on a first name basis, people ranging from business moguls to movie stars. She was the breeder of a horse named Count Chic who ran fourth in the 1956 Kentucky Derby.

My aunt married David Bean in 1960. David was an avid aviator and Bettie, with her usual enthusiasm, soon earned a private pilot license. David and Bettie were an awesome couple.

David left us in November of 2013 and now Bettie is also gone. They will both be missed by their friends and family. Christmas and Thanksgiving will never be quite the same again. The world is a poorer place with the passing of those two wonderful people.
