Dr. Michael "Mike" Dale Grady, beloved husband, father, brother, uncle and "papa", esteemed professor and devoted St. Louis Cardinals fan, passed away at his home in Westchester, CA on April 4, 2012 after a courageous 16-month battle with pancreatic cancer. Mike was born in St. Louis, Missouri on August 3, 1946 and spent his youth in the suburb of Florissant, attending Our Lady of Fatima School and St. Thomas Aquinas High School. He earned his BA in mathematics from the Univeristy of St. Louis in 1968, his MS in the field from Southern Illinois Univeristy at Edwardsville in 1970 and PhD in mathematics from the University of Utah in 1975. He taught at LMU for 37 years, 12 of which were spent as math department chairperson and continued to teach despite stage IV pancreatic cancer diagnosis. During his tenure at LMU, Mike also co-authored several college-level mathematics textbooks and served on several of the university's committees. Active in the community, Mike coached youth baseball and soccer in Little League, Babe Ruth and AYSO Region 7 leagues and served on the local boards for those organizations. During his 25 years as an AYSO Region 7 coach, he served as regional commissioner, section chief coach, and instituted the Character Counts Program. A St. Louis Cardinals super fan, one of Mike's favorite activities was watching, and cheering loudly for, his team. In addition to being an avid baseball fan, Mike loved to spend time with his family, read, and vacation at the beach where he enjoyed watching the ocean, collecting shells and walking in the surf. Along with his wife, Mary-Margaret, Mike leaves behind his two sons, Sean (Beth) and Ryan (Crystal); granddaughter, Adelyn; brother, Tom (Charlotte); sister, Patti (Scott) Kenney; sister-in-law, Cecilia McGlone; brother-in-law, Mike (Carol) McGlone; a niece; 6 nephews and 3 cousins.
