Molly Berry Obituary
Molly Berry

Molly Berry, 69 year old resident of Long Beach, California passed away peacefully in her home on November 29, 2012 of natural causes. Molly was born on January 11, 1943 in San Pedro, California to the late Jack and Alice Berry. Molly was diagnosed at an early age with Osteogeneis Imperfectia, a brittle bone disease that affects thousands of children every year. Molly spent most of her childhood at the Shrines Hospital in San Francisco, where she was one of the first children to undergo a surgery of shortening four of the long bones in her body in order to decrease fractures, and strengthen her bones. This is now a common surgery for patients with Osteogenesis Imperfectia. Molly's parents never allowed her to use her disability as a disadvantage, rather encouraged her to be an example and create advantages for herself and others like her. Molly was the first handicapped student to attend San Pedro High School, and paved the way of others to follow her path. As a young adult Molly attained her driver's license after her father and friends helped to create an extenders for the peddles on a car and away she drove into a very independent life. Molly worked at the Harbor Department for many years, and developed her own Medical Copy and Review Company. Molly had a passion and talent for knitting and needle point that later in life brought her to Concepts in Yarn; there she taught knitting to students who became part of her large circle of close knitting and needlepoint friends. Molly is survived by her sisters, Joan Tilley and Cathy Salzman; her brother-in-law; Lon Salzman and nieces and nephews; Ian Salzman, Anne Salzman, Barry Tilley, Christine Rooth, Jon Tilley.
