Nancy, age 73, resided in Torrance, California since 1969. She passed suddenly and unexpectedly on Monday February 11, 2013 at her family's home. Nancy was born in Highland Park, New Jersey to her parents, Norman Edward VanHeuvel and Henrietta Cora Brown on October 7, 1939. She and her only sibling, Edward Norman VanHeuvel spent their childhood in Highland Park, New Jersey where Nancy graduated from Highland Park High School in 1957. She then attended University of Pennsylvania at Philadelphia where she earned the degree of Occupational Therapist. She was married Robert Hofland, Jr, for 26 years also, from the Highland Park area. They had two children, Susan Renee and David Robert Hofland. She returned to occupational therapy in 1980 where she worked in the psychiatric field as an Occupational Therapist, for 26 years at Del Amo Psychiatric Hospital in Torrance. She has always remained active in her community, attending Pacific Unitarian Church in Rancho Palos Verdes where she was instrumental in establishing the Permaculture Garden and was active on many committees where she furthered her deep-rooted values of environmental activism, social justice and equality. She was a Beloved Grandmother and Mother, involved in all aspects of her children and grandchildren's lives. Nancy is survived by her former spouse Robert Hofland, with whom she remained friends; her daughter, Susan Renee and husband, Chad Eldon Moreau; her son David Robert Hofland; her grandchildren, Shay Anthony Mathews, Bryce Tanner Moreau and Justine Adara Moreau and her brother, Norman Edward VanHeuvel. Nancy's memorial and tribute will be held Saturday, March 2, 2013 at the Pacific Unitarian Church, 5621 Montemalaga Dr., Rancho Palos Verdes, CA 90274, (310) 378-9449.
