Octavio, I am so honored to have gotten to know you and to have you as my little Cousin in this life! We have such an enormous family, so I did not have the pleasure of meeting you, until you were already an adult....I am so happy I did. You obviously are an amazing Soul...Your personality glowed, beamed, radiated such a positive energy, that it made me proud that we are related. Thank you for coming to my house and making sure my trees were trimmed so professionally. More than that though, I am so pleased that I had the oppportunity to get to know what a fine man you had become. Recently, I was chosen by my work mates at TMMC to pick out a floral arragement for a fellow co- worker"s father....Lisa and I met at Villa Hermosa, because, you are the best in the South Bay, knowing it would be a beautiful arragement, but the best experience was the happy, friendly, Octavio who took our order....and ran out to stop us in the parking lot to correct a little detail about the arrangement that we would not of noticed...but he took the time.....God Bless....he was so helpful...

You were one I always looked up to. Someone I always wanted to see, visit or just cross paths with. You had a very unique personallity that we all wish we had. My visits to southern california will never be them same without you. I am so thankful for the last time I saw you and the quality time we spent together at Onia's wedding and thoes memories will be with me for the rest of time. Although taken from us way too young, you are in a much better place now. Trips to the shop will never be the same without your upbeat greetings and never ending smile. Thank you for all those memories growing up at the shop - you were always like a little brother to me. I'll never forget picking you and Vero up in grade school, the Christmas tree lots, weekends at the shop, deliveries, New Years parties and Ceasar's. I will never forget my memory of you bragging about Jackson the last time I saw you at the shop.

Please know I am happy I had the chance to meet Octavio and I will always remember him for the KIND and GENTLE person he was...He talked so much about Jackson and how close his family was. Our deepest thoughts and prayers go out to Ovtavio and his family, i went to calle mayor and south high with Octavio, and i hadnt spent alot of time with him in recent, but i always remembered how fun and outgoing and caring he was even at a young age back in school, and his family are wonderful people and have a wonderful business and my mother in las vegas and i in redondo beach will say a special prayer for him and his loved ones tonight as hes in heaven know. First met this young friendly man about 2 months ago, when we needed to make a progress payment on the incredible landscaping that David and staff did for our new home. Was bragging to Veronica about David, when Mom came out to chat Then Octavio came by and said "Oh yes, I taught my brother David everything he knows"....but it was said with a wink! Later shared that with David, who said "Yep, that's my little brother!". Family love and pride....that's the message from both. We ache for all the Mata Family.

To the Mata family,Some of our fondest memories of Tavio will be of the times he was so proudly manning the BBQ at the Mata family tailgate parties at the Rose Bowl for the UCLA games. He was so happy and made sure everyone was welcome and having a great time.
That was typical because he always greeted us with a big smile and a friendliness that made us feel like a part of the family. We will miss Tavio. Thanks for sharing him with us.

For those who knew you as well as I did they would know how truly amazing you are. God took extra time in to making you. You are a combination of brilliance, laughter, warmth, and heart. You loved me as your own daughter; you were my protector and mentor. I would argue and bunk heads with you all the time and now that you are gone I would give anything in the world to hear your voice again, even if it is just for a moment. What brings me comfort is knowing that you are with grandma Virginia, Pachi, and Grandpa surrounded by all the angels and safe from harm. I left nationals many years ago, but you were never far from my thoughts. You had the most amazing ability to make someone feel loved, happy and appreciated. Nothing was ever too much trouble. You would go out of you way to make my evening a blast. I will never forget our "friendly" USC-UCLA football rivalry every year. We truely lost an angel this past weekend. I thank God for blessing me by knowing you. You are a wonderful person and friend. I will miss you greatly.

I saw Octavio only a few weeks ago and we spoke about Jackson, his love for him and how much fun he was having being a Dad. I had not seen you for several months but you graced me with that bubbly spirit only a couple of weeks ago. You, like always, made me smile and laugh. I will miss your addicting smile and laugh. I had not seen you for several months but was suddenly graced with your presence several weeks ago. You captured my attention with your Big Smile and caring words of encouragement. I remember you as a vibrant little boy; running circles around me and your brothers. When I last saw you, I saw a grown man in very high spirits with a true love for everything and everyone. I weep thinking about you being taken from your family and friends but know that you are in a great place. I will truly miss you "Tavio".
To the whole Mata family, I weep for you also. Like "Tavio", all of you have treated me and my family with the up most respect and given us some truly wonderful memories. I take comfort in knowing that all of us, in one way or another, will also pass and meet each other on the other side one day.
In closing, I hope that everyone remembers the GREAT BIG HAPPY SMILE and the true loving, generous spirit of Octavio. Only a few hold those great attributes and he was truly a leader of those traits.

I weep thinking about the kind, gentle and HAPPY spirit of "Tavio". He graced me with his big smile and loving words of encouragement just a month ago. I had not seen him for several months prior, but he brightened my day with his addicting smile and great attitude.
To the whole MATA family, your baby boy will be missed. You provided him with a wonderful life...one filled with great love and respect.
The only comfort that I can bring, to all of you, is that we will eventually all pass, for one reason or another, and we will eventually meet each other on the other side one day.
Be strong and continue to hold the great, cute, funny and cherished memories of a wonderful boy/man.

Octavio, you are and always will have a special place in my heart. I love and miss you very much but I know that you are in a good place. I can only express that I am so happy to have had the honor in being your older sister for the last 34 years. You always knew how to make me laugh.
