Octavio Mata Obituary

Born August 28, 1976 to Ernest and Gabriela Mata, Octavio Jesus Mata joined his grandparents in Heaven on September 25, 2010. He died peacefully at home in Lomita. Octavio grew up in Torrance having attended Le Lycee Francais De Los Angeles, Calle Mayor Middle School and South Torrance High School (Class of 1994). He will be remembered fondly for his charm, wonderful smile and how he cared for others. Ready to give everything he had. Watching him grow into fatherhood was a proud moment for his family. He loved life and knew how to celebrate friends and family. Whether it was a birthday party, 4th of July, or UCLA tailgates, he new how to get it done and made sure everyone was along for the ride. We will miss him dearly but know his spirit is alive in his son, Jackson (2 1/2 years). He shared his passion for sports with his son having already taken him to many Dodger, UCLA football and Laker games. Octavio is survived by his beautiful son, Jackson; loving parents, Ernest and Gabriela; brothers, Ernesto, Fernando and David; sisters, Rebecca (Orlando Franco) and Veronica (Marty McDonough); nieces, Jessica, Lauren, Mary and Alexis; and nephew, Christian. He was preceded in death by grandparents, Placida Castillo Lopez, Virginia Gomez, Jesus and Agapita Mata. In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been set up for Jackson's future education. A memorial service will be held at St. Lawrence Martyr Church, Redondo Beach on Thursday, September 30, 2010, 10:00 a.m., followed by interment at Green Hills Memorial Park. Octavio, I am so honored to have gotten to know you and to have you as my little Cousin in this life! We have such an enormous family, so I did not have the pleasure of meeting you, until you were already an adult....I am so happy I did. You obviously are an amazing Soul...Your personality glowed, beamed, radiated such a positive energy, that it made me proud that we are related. Thank you for coming to my house and making sure my trees were trimmed so professionally. More than that though, I am so pleased that I had the oppportunity to get to know what a fine man you had become. Until we meet again Little Cousin Tavio, I look forward to seeing your amazing smile :)

Recently, I was chosen by my work mates at TMMC to pick out a floral arragement for a fellow co- worker"s father....Lisa and I met at Villa Hermosa, because, you are the best in the South Bay, knowing it would be a beautiful arragement, but the best experience was the happy, friendly, Octavio who took our order....and ran out to stop us in the parking lot to correct a little detail about the arrangement that we would not of noticed...but he took the time.....God Bless....he was so helpful...

Tavio,
Although taken from us way too young, you are in a much better place now. Trips to the shop will never be the same without your upbeat greetings and never ending smile. Thank you for all those memories growing up at the shop - you were always like a little brother to me. I'll never forget picking you and Vero up in grade school, the Christmas tree lots, weekends at the shop, deliveries, New Years parties and Ceasar's. I will never forget my memory of you bragging about Jackson the last time I saw you at the shop.
Good Times Tavio, you will always be missed.

Mata Family,
You are continually in our thoughts and prayers. You can truly be proud of Tavio and the number of people he's touched in his life. God bless your family.

First met this young friendly man about 2 months ago, when we needed to make a progress payment on the incredible landscaping that David and staff did for our new home. Was bragging to Veronica about David, when Mom came out to chat Then Octavio came by and said "Oh yes, I taught my brother David everything he knows"....but it was said with a wink! Later shared that with David, who said "Yep, that's my little brother!". Family love and pride....that's the message from both. We ache for all the Mata Family.

Tavio, where do I begin? You have always been one of my biggest fans throughout my growth and career. You were loved for so many things; your enormous heart, creative arrangements, your helping hand and of course a fellow Laker fan! Luckily you have such amazing family and friends to pass on your legacy to Jackson. I am sure you are up in heaven catching up on loss conversation with papa, make sure you two take a break from time to time to visit us. You will be severely missed and the thought of walking into the flower shop and not see your huge smile working the front counter will never be the same for me. To My Uncle Octavio,
For those who knew you as well as I did they would know how truly amazing you are. God took extra time in to making you. You are a combination of brilliance, laughter, warmth, and heart. You loved me as your own daughter; you were my protector and mentor. I would argue and bunk heads with you all the time and now that you are gone I would give anything in the world to hear your voice again, even if it is just for a moment. What brings me comfort is knowing that you are with grandma Virginia, Pachi, and Grandpa surrounded by all the angels and safe from harm. What also brings me comfort is how I can feel you in my heart guiding me and watching over me, as you always have and as I know you always will. I promise to be the best cousin to Jackson and take him to all the places that you would. I will tell him stories about how you made people laugh, how you created things, and loved with your whole heart. I am grateful that God chose me to be your niece.
I Love You

My heart is heavy with deep sadness. The painful news of your passing will not be forgotten.

Your BIG Personality and HUGE heart is one that will never be matched. The memories I have from our meeting when I was 9 and you were 14 and the friendship that grew from there will always be kept close.

You are an angel that was taken home too soon. You will be greatly missed forever, but never forgotten.

I will also share your wonderful spirit with Jackson and be there for whatever else I can do for him throughout life.

Love and Miss you Tavio.

I met you the day of your 30th birthday party, and that day changed the course of my life forever. Over the last four years you have given me so much Octavio. The most beautiful thing you could have ever done was give me our son Jackson. God, you were an amazing father. I always felt so secure when he was with you, you lit up his world and for that I am forever grateful.
For everything you have done for me, I make this promise to you. I will always keep your memory alive for our son, I will love him for the both of us the best I can. I trust that you will be watching over us every second of every day. I love you Octavio.

I loved seeing you and Jackson together and will treasure those moments forever. I promise you that with my time left here I will never let Jackson forget you, care for him and protect him as if he were my own. I love you more than words can express and I think you always knew that. I was there when you came into this world and feel blessed to know that I was there when you left us to be with Mama Virginia, Pachi, and Grandpa. Rest well and continue to shine over us as you always did.

Octavio;
I left nationals many years ago, but you were never far from my thoughts. You had the most amazing ability to make someone feel loved, happy and appreciated. Nothing was ever too much trouble. You would go out of you way to make my evening a blast. I will never forget our "friendly" USC-UCLA football rivalry every year. We truely lost an angel this past weekend. I thank God for blessing me by knowing you. You are a wonderful person and friend. I will miss you greatly.

To the Mata family, my thoughts and prayers are with you during this troubling time. Please remember that Tavio will always be looking down on us and making us laugh.

You will be forever live in our hearts and memories. You always had a gift for lighting up a room with your laughter and smile, and your friendship was genuine and grand, like your heart. Octavio,
Your smile and addicting personality were two of many wonderful traits that you gave to your family and friends. I had not seen you for several months but you graced me with that bubbly spirit only a couple of weeks ago. You, like always, made me smile and laugh. You also brightened my day like you always did for everyone. I will miss the memories of you, as a vibrant little boy with that up lifting spirit, running around me and your brothers with a little snottie nose.
I cry thinking of how you were taken away from us at such a young and vibrant age but know that you are in a greater place.
To the MATA family, I also cry for all of you. Like Octavio, you always treated me and my family with the up-most kindest and respect. I will miss your little boy and brother but know that he is in a wonderful place. We too will eventually, due to one reason or another, join him in that GREAT Place.
Remember all of the great, cute, funny and loving memories that Octavio brought to your lives and laugh, cry and smile for the joy he brought to all of us. My condolences to everyone.

Remember all of the great, cute, funny and loving memories that Octavio brought to your lives and laugh, cry and smile for the joy he brought to all of us. My condolences to everyone.

"Tavio",
I will miss your addicting smile and laugh. I had not seen you for several months but was suddenly graced with your presence several weeks ago. You captured my attention with your Big Smile and caring words of encouragement. I remember you as a vibrant little boy; running circles around me and your brothers. When I last saw you, I saw a grown man in very high spirits with a true love for everything and everyone. I weep thinking about you being taken from your family and friends but know that you are in a great place. I will truly miss you "Tavio".

To the whole Mata family, I weep for you also. Like "Tavio", all of you have treated me and my family with the up most respect and given us some truly wonderful memories. I take comfort in knowing that all of us, in one way or another, will also pass and meet each other on the other side one day.

In closing, I hope that everyone remembers the GREAT BIG HAPPY SMILE and the true loving, generous spirit of Octavio. Only a few hold those great attributes and he was truly a leader of those traits.

Thank you Octavio for gracing me with your love and addicting SMILE!

Jim Booth and family.

I weep thinking about the kind, gentle and HAPPY spirit of "Tavio". He graced me with his big smile and loving words of encouragement just a month ago. I had not seen him for several months prior, but he brightened my day with his addicting smile and great attitude.

To the whole MATA family, your baby boy will be missed. You provided him with a wonderful life...one filled with great love and respect.

The only comfort that I can bring, to all of you, is that we will eventually all pass, for one reason or another, and we will eventually meet each other on the other side one day.

Be strong and continue to hold the great, cute, funny and cherished memories of a wonderful boy/man.

With Great LOVE and RESPECT,

Jim Booth and the rest of the Booth Family

Octavio, you are and always will have a special place in my heart. I love and miss you very much but I know that you are in a good place. I can only express that I am so happy to have had the honor in being your older sister for the last 34 years. You always knew how to make me laugh. I will miss that beautiful smile of yours but I know one day I will see it again. Rest in peace my baby brother of mine until we meet again
