Patricia Wright Obituary

Patricia Priebe Wright, 75, a longtime resident of Palos Verdes, passed away suddenly in her sleep on Saturday morning, September 18, 2010. She was preceded in death by her parents, Christena and Roy Priebe, both also of Palos Verdes, and her husband, Wilbur Alan Wright. Pat leaves behind her loving family: daughter, Pamela Hartman (Henry) of Cary, NC, and their children Samuel, Grace, Joshua and Benjamin; daughter, Alyn Wright of Long Beach, CA; and her children, Christopher and Laura Moon; and daughter, Susan McNeal (Joseph) of Phelan, California; and their children, Tiger Lily and Joseph. She will also be missed by her sister, Jody Murdock (Bud) of Rolling Hills, CA and her companion, Thomas Rockwell. Pat graduated in 1957 from the University of Southern California with a degree in psychology and earned her master's degree in education in 1959. Pat used her education to contribute what she could to the Palos Verdes community. She will be remembered by many for her years of service as principal of La Cresta, Vista Grande and Soleado elementary schools, where she inspired many children and adults with her zest for life, her affection for staff and students and her amazing holiday costumes. Once she retired, Pat, also a former soroptimist, turned her energies to her beloved Los Serenos de Point Vincente and another cause she strongly supported, the Trojan League of South Bay. People were drawn to her beautiful smile, her creative teaching techniques and her genuine love for people. A memorial service will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that contributions be made to: Trojan Tribute, University of Southern California, indicating Patricia Wright, in memoriam, on the memo line and send to: Jenn Buckner, Trojan Tribute Chair, P.O. Box 7250, Rancho Santa Fe, CA 92067. Please sign the guestbook at www.dailybreeze.com/obits.

I didn't know Pat very well, but was a fellow member of Trojan League with her. Once I went to her home for a meeting, and it immediately became evident that she was a TRUE Trojan fan. Her collections of USC memorabilia was so impressive! She was a very nice woman and she will be missed. I'm so sorry to hear of her passing.

Los Serenos de Point Vicente has lost a dear friend and member. Pat kept us together when the museum was closed for many years; we will miss her monthly column in our newsletter--such wit and humor. We at Los Serenos send our condolences to her family and friends.

I'll always be grateful for Pat's support and friendship, and for her part in my getting my teaching job in Torrance that lasted 26 years!
