Paul 1923-2010 Dwight Sr. Obituary

In Loving Memory
October 21, 1923 - September 19, 2010
Paul will always be remembered as a loving husband and father. He was married to his wife and soul mate, Phyllis Dwight for over 60 years. They had 2 children together, Paul F. Dwight, Jr. and Gary W. Dwight who both still live in San Pedro. Paul served his country in the U.S. Army attached to the 109th Infantry during World War II. Landing in France after D-Day, the division fought through Normandy, helped liberate Paris, and ended up bitterly engaged along the "West Wall" of Germany in November 1944. One month later, during the Battle of the Bulge, the division was instrumental in stalling the last German offensive of the war. After the war, Paul returned to San Pedro and in 1946 joined the Los Angeles City Fire Department becoming the second generation of the family to have joined the department. In 1979 he retired as an engineer after 33 years of service. Paul is survived by his wife, Phyllis; his sons, Paul (Celeste) and Gary, as well as grandchildren Nicole, Peter, Lauren, Brianna and Caitlin. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Cabrillo Beach Boosters, Inc., 3800 Stephen M. White Dr., San Pedro CA 90731. Viewing will be held at McNerney's Mortuary from 5-7 pm on Thursday, September 23, 2010. Graveside services will be held on Friday, September 24, 2010 at 11:30 am at Green Hills Memorial Park.
