Richard A. Abad
Richard passed away January 30, 2014. He was born September 8, 1958 in New Orleans, Louisiana to Leonidas and Ophelia Abad. The family relocated to San Pedro in July, 1963. He attended Cabrillo Avenue Elementary School, Dana Jr. High School and graduated from San Pedro High School in 1976. Richard worked at Todd Pacific Shipyard from 1979 to 1983 before leaving to join the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Dept. He moved to Tehachapi, California in 1995 and joined the California Dept. of Corrections as a corrections officer, working at the Lancaster Prison. He retired in January of 2012. Richard moved back to San Pedro after the death of his father in 2013. He was funny, silly, and playful, but when it was time to get serious he was very serious. His interests included scuba diving, the outdoors, music, and spending time with his many friends from the San Pedro and Tehachapi areas. Richard was preceded in death by his father, Leonidas Abad and his sister, Carol Hyatt. He is survived by his mother, Ophelia; brothers, Edward and Louis Abad; sister, Zoila Abad of Ecuador; sister in law, Betsy Abad; nephews, Eddie Abad, David Hyatt, Jr., Ivan Rafael and Fabrizio Molina Abad of Ecuador, niece, Christina Hoffacker and her husband Travis and other relatives in the United States and Ecuador. A Funeral Service will be held on Wednesday, February 12, 2014, 7:00 pm at McNerney's Mortuary Chapel. Interment will be private. Visitation will be on Wednesday, 1-7 pm at
