Rino Marconi, Sr. passed away peacefully in his sleep on March 22, 2013 after a four and half month illness, with his family by his side. He was born on November 18, 1930 at his parents' dairy farm which is now the site of Harbor College. The family moved to San Pedro where he lived until his passing. He was preceded in death by his parents, Eugenio and Amalia Marconi, three siblings, son, Rino Marconi, Jr. and grandson, Anthony Alexander. Rino married the love of his life, Marjorie Crisman on June 30, 1952 and together they raised four children. He served in the United States Army from 1952 - 1954 and was a longshoreman with ILWU Local 13 for eight years and foreman with ILWU Local 94 for 37 years, retiring in 1996. Rino belonged to the Mazzini Club, San Pedro High School Pirate Boosters, ILWU Pensioners and donated countless hours to his community. Together with his wife, Marjorie, he owned Hillside Liquor for 17 years. The joy of his life was being a husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Marjorie; daughters, Vicky (Richard) Dupont, Michelle (Billy) Alexander and Debra Vega; grandchildren, Louie (Megan) Dupont, Raquel (Mark) Pabst, Rino (Carrie) Marconi III, Liza (Angel) Marconi-Mariscal, Candice (Ryan) Wilkes, John, Joseph and Courtney Alexander, Michael (Gaby) Moralez, Roxanna and Anthony Vega; and 13 great-grandchildren. Special thanks to his caregiver, Edgar Diaz and Rev. Brian Nunes of Mary Star of the Sea. Visitation will be held today, 3-8 p.m. at McNerney's Mortuary. A funeral mass will be offered on Wednesday, March 27, 2013, 10:30 a.m. at Mary Star of the Sea Church, followed by interment at Green Hills Memorial Park.
