Robert North, Jr. Obituary

May 1957 - December 6, 2010

Our beloved husband and father Robert (53) was born in Hawthorne, CA to Robert E. North and Eve Thompson. He passed away peacefully at home with his family by his side from a six month battle with colon cancer. He is survived by his wife of 31 years, Nancy; two wonderful sons, Robert and his wife, Nina and his son, Jeff; as well as 5 sisters, Teresa, Cindy, twin sister, Robin, Pamela and Pat; also, stepmother, Anna; stepbrothers, Chris and Charlie; and stepsister, Carol. He was a wonderful uncle to numerous nieces and nephews. He started washing and fueling airplanes planes out of San Pedro High School in 1975 at Torrance Airport where he discovered his love of flying and became an accomplished pilot that would last a lifetime. He owned his own trucking company for a time driving all over the 48 states enjoying every minute of traveling the U.S. He later worked managing Tips Cadillac in Torrance for many years, successfully turning wrenches and learning an in depth heavy line automotive background. He then moved on to a great position with Snap-on Tools for 7 years as a heavy equipment sales manager and trainer for all of California. Finally, 1994 to present, he was hired working for Pacific Crane Maintenance Co. as an ILWU Local 13 mechanic for the LA and Long Beach Harbors. He achieved his dream of becoming an instrument rated pilot and joined the Civil Air Patrol and was honored to hold the title of first lieutenant from South Bay Senior Squadron #129. He was much loved and will be greatly missed. A celebration of his life will be held at Green Hills Memorial Chapel on Tuesday, December 14, 2010 at 1pm.

Uncle Bobby, I miss you so much. You have supported and encouraged me to embrace so many of life's adventures that have passed and those that are yet to come. I will always treasure the moments we shared together, especially these last six months.

You told me once that if you don't say goodbye, you can't say hello… I look forward to the day when I can see your smile and say hello once again. I love you.

Bobby, you meant a lot to me. We did a lot of special things together. We had a lot in common. The stories we shared made us laugh. We always looked forward to Rip's Cafe and talking about our hot rods. You are a great brother-in-law and a great friend. Love, Bob

I am so honored to be able to call you my Uncle. I am so proud of everything you accomplished in your life. You are a great man. I cherished every time I got the opportunity to talk with you on the phone, making me laugh and giving me words of encouragement. If I can be half the man you are, I will see myself as a success. Even though I never spent much time with you, the stories I have heard of all of your qualities have become inspirations to me. You are one of my role models and more importantly, one of my heroes. I Love You Uncle Bobby. I will see you again one day.

Love, RJ
