Robert Ernest Dearborn Obituary
Robert Ernest Dearborn

December 1926 - September 2012

Robert (Bob) Ernest Dearborn, A resident of
Torrance. After complications from prostate cancer, Robert passed away peacefully in Long Beach. Robert was born at Torrance Memorial Medical Center, raised in Lomita, and graduated from Narbonne High School. Except for his years in the military, Robert lived in the Torrance/Lomita area his whole life as a devoted husband and father and devout Christian. For many years he was a deacon and taught Sunday school at Narbonne Avenue Baptist Church. Robert was one of two twin boys born to the late Arthur and Isabelle Dearborn, and was the beloved husband of the late Martha Dearborn for 54 years. Robert and Martha first met in the second grade and later married in 1954. Robert will be forever loved and remembered by his children, Donald Dearborn, Diane Richardson, and Darryl Dearborn, his treasured grandchildren, Patrick, Catherine, Crystal, Alyssa, Emily, and Henry; his sisters-in-law, Lois Ihde and Joyce Dearborn; his son in-law, Rick, daughters-in-law, Maggie and Julie, and his many nieces, nephews, in-laws, and other friends and family who were blessed to know him. Robert served in the US Merchant Marine in 1945 aboard T2 Tankers in the Pacific, the US Army from 1945-1948 during the occupation of Europe, and the US Air Force Reserve from 1951-1954 as a Turret systems mechanic. Robert was very proud to have served his country in his late teens through his twenties and greatly respected the military institutions that helped defend freedom during his generation. While raising a family in Torrance, Robert worked in manufacturing plants including many years at Rome Cable Corp. and later at Garrett Technologies. He was a devoted and caring father, a role model for his children and always busy in their lives. He had a cheerful spirit with a practical and positive nature. He would lend a hand to anyone and usually sing while doing it. He loved singing at home, in the car, in church, or in a fishing boat. Never shy about sharing his experiences, Robert loved to strike up conversations with anyone who would listen and share their stories back to him. Robert loved the outdoors, especially fishing with family in the mountains on long summer family camping trips to Shaver Lake in the Sierras. He was also a devoted and loving grandfather, always encouraging his grandchildren in their interests.
