Russell Cole Shoemaker, a Palos Verdes native, age 52, passed away July 29, 2013 in Torrance, CA. A lifelong Peninsula resident, Cole attended Rancho Vista Elementary, Dapplegray Intermediate, Miraleste High School. He graduated from Cal State Dominquez Hills with a bachelor's degree in business administration. Cole began working at Cal Pacific Dyeing and Finishing in Gardena while still in high school and eventually became its president. In 2006, Cole started Shoemaker Construction, a successful Palos Verdes Construction contracting firm. Cole married Barbara Cook in 1986. They had 3 sons, Kenton, Garrett and Blake. As his family and countless friends will attest, Cole Shoemaker was a builder, but he built relationships as well as homes. In 2004, Cole married Rosaline Jackson and became father to two more sons, Adam and Ryan. From a young age Cole loved doing all manner of projects where he could work with his hands. He was a skilled tennis player, and loved playing weekend basketball. When his sons were young, he greatly enjoyed coaching their soccer teams and traveling to soccer competitions throughout Southern California. Cole was a people person in every sense and he loved his family and friends deeply. He had a devoted relationship with Jesus Christ and was an active member of the River Church. A recent highpoint was a mission trip to Iraq to build a new playground in an impoverished community where the children had no place to play. His gifts of compassion and building, his attention to details and his passion for God touched countless lives and leaves a legacy in hearts and homes throughout the South Bay and beyond. Cole is survived by his mother and father, Louise and Jack; wife Rosaline; sons Kenton Shoemaker (Anna), Garrett Shoemaker, Blake Shoemaker and stepsons Adam Jackson and Ryan Jackson; siblings Jill Edwards (George) and Price Shoemaker (Gina); niece, Brittany Shoemaker; and nephews, Bradley Shoemaker, Mark Edwards and Carson Edwards. Services will be held Monday, August 5, 2013, 9:30am at South Coast Botanic Garden, 26300 Crenshaw Blvd, Palos Verdes Peninsula. Due to limited parking we strongly suggest carpooling and using shuttle services from Ernie Howlett Park located at 25851 Hawthorne Boulevard.
