Tony Barcott
7/17/1914 - 10/10/2013
At 99 #188; years old, Tony had lived a wonderfully long life. He was born in Everett, Washington in 1914. He was one of eight brothers and sisters born to Frank and Frauna Barcott. When he was six years old, the family moved to San Pedro and eventually they became next door neighbors to the Vitalich family. He married Winnie Vitalich, the love of his life, on January 5, 1939. They were married 73 years at time of Winnie's death in 2011. They had two children, Frank and Marie. He was a Commercial Fisherman for over 50 years. In that time, he owned three boats: the Coral Sea, the Midnight Sun and the Janis M. He was the President of the Fisherman's Co-op multiple times. When he retired from Commercial Fishing, he became a teacher at Harbor Occupational Center in San Pedro. After accepting the job, he learned that he needed to get his high school diploma. He graduated from Carson High School at 58 years old, and then went on to graduate from UCLA with his teaching degree at 63. He taught his Commercial Fishing class for 17 years. He loved teaching that class and being down on the docks with his students and buddies. His buddies named him "The Professor" when he started teaching. That name followed him for the rest of his days. He loved his family with passion. His two children, son and daughter-in law, six grandchildren and thirteen great-grandchildren were his joy. He was a wonder to be around, the life of the party, always telling stories. He had the most beautiful smile. He is preceded in death by his wife, Winnie and son, Frank. He is survived by his sister, Francis, daughter, Marie and son in law, John, daughter in law, Carolyn, six grandchildren, their spouses and thirteen great-grandchildren. A funeral mass will be offered Monday, October 21, 2013, 10:00 am at Holy Trinity Church. Burial to follow at Green Hills Memorial Park.
