William Ramirez Obituary
William Ramirez

Known to all as "Memo", left his well-lived presence here early last Sunday, just a week after his family celebrated his 73rd birthday with him. Memo chose never to complain during the health difficulties of his last four years, even through his last confrontation with the cancer that took him. He was born February 10, 1940 in Mexicali, Mexico, the son of Maria and Jose Ramirez, and became a proud American citizen in 1968. For 30 years Memo was a skilled member of the Southern California Glazers and Glassworkers Union, Local 636. In 1996, always seeking the best security for his family, he became a longshoreman. Memo worked through all the years of his life on behalf of his family. It is a family that includes his adoring wife of 48 years, Cookie; his proud children, daughter, Dolores; sons, David (Kathy), Jack (Monica) and Michael; and his wonderful grandchildren, Kathryn, Lauren, and Ernesto Morales, Emily and John Ramirez, and Jack Tarango IV. He leaves two brothers, Rafael Ramirez and Augustine (Rosario) Ramirez; four sisters, Josefina Chavez, Maria Luisa (Henry) Martinez, Rosa (Gilbert) Genel, and Carmen Carpena; brother-in-law, Frank (Eilen) Manqueros, Joseph (Josie) Manqueros, and sister-in-law, Dianne Maricich. Memo was hardworking, prudent, and set an example every day of his life. He died owing no one, but being owed much by many. Our son and brother, Mike has said it so well, "My father made a life out of being faithful to his wife, dedicated to his children, and uncompromising when it came to his character and integrity. (He is) proof that good, honest, hard working men can exist." Visitation for Memo will be at McNerney's Mortuary, San Pedro, on Monday, February 25, 2013 from 1:00-5:00pm. A Rosary will follow at 7:00pm at Holy Trinity Church. The funeral Mass will be celebrated at Holy Trinity on Tuesday, February 26 at 10:00am. Interment will follow at Green Hills Memorial Park. The family sends a special Thank You to Dr. Lawrence Greenberg and his staff, Blanca and Kennedy, Dr. Ron P. Gallemore, Dr. Jilani, Dr. Greene, and Mary Hamme. Also, to the stqff of Providence Trinity Care Hospice. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Trinity Care Hospice.
