William (Bill) Rimmey
William (Bill) blasted out of his silo for his final flight test to posterity on February 2, 2013. He was born on January 10, 1932 to Raymond E. and Marguerite H. Rimmey in Peoria, Illinois. The family moved in 1941 to Pekin, Illinois where Bill graduated from Pekin Community High School in 1949. He attended Western Illinois University (then Western Illinois State Teachers College) and subsequently transferred to the University of Illinois where he received a B.S. in Engineering in 1955. He accepted a position as thermodynamics engineer with North American Aviation. In 1960, Bill joined the Technical Staff of the STL. (TRW) Propulsion Laboratory and was a Project Engineer directing development of the Minuteman I, II and III Solid Rocket Motors. Subsequent to Minuteman, Bill participated in devellopment of DSP, TDRSS, Fltsatcom and Chandra satellite propulsion systems. As part of the Chandra program, he collaborated with NASA personnel in the successful development of pyrotechnically activated propellant Flow control valves. Bill retired in 2000 to pursue biking, walking and crossword puzzles. He is survived by his loving wife, Carol Hathaway; and her two daughters, Pamela Hitchings and Carie Sciabica and their families; as well as one son, Richard Rimmey, from a previous marriage.
