Ellen Gravendyk

July 26, 1930 - February 17, 2014

Ellen grew up in San Jose, CA. She attended Notre Dame High School there and the College of Notre Dame in Belmont. She graduated from San Jose State with a major in Radio and Television and was a featured performer on the Spartan Review campus radio show. When Dutch, her brother Jack's army buddy, saw Ellen's picture, he said "I'm going to go home and marry her." Although she was engaged when he got back, he made good his boast. They married in 1956 and traveled extensively over the years. Ellen was the life of any party. She could sing beautifully, tell hilarious stories and had a great sense of humor. She liked to play bridge and worked many years in Christian Service. Ellen is survived by her brothers Jack and Jim Healey and their wives Eva and Elaine, brother-n-law Jim Gravendyk, eleven nieces and nephews and a host of good friends and neighbors. Her Memorial Mass will be celebrated at 11:00 am on Friday, February 21st at St. Margaret Mary Catholic Church in Lomita, followed by a reception in the church hall and then interment to follow at Green Hills Memorial Park in Rancho Palos Verdes.
