Lewis "Bengie" Enstedt
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our beautiful boy, Lewis "Bengie" Enstedt, on February 26, 2014. He was born in San Pedro on August 27, 1969 and was a lifetime resident. Bengie was an amazing guy and was blessed with many gifts and talents. He was handsome, charismatic, funny, witty, intelligent, and kind. With his magnetic personality, gorgeous blue eyes and captivating bright smile, he also had the most beautiful and tender heart. He had a lifelong love of the water, and was taught to surf as a child by his father. He found peace and solace in the ocean and freedom in riding its waves. He loved a good surf trip, and travelled to the oceans of Indonesia, Costa Rica, and Hawaii in search of the perfect wave. His greatest joy was in looking into the faces of his precious children, his true and most lasting legacy. He had a 20 year career on the waterfront. As a member of Local 13, he was proud of his time spent in Ship Gang 48, working alongside his father, Charlie. Most recently he was a member of Local 63, working as a marine clerk. He was preceded in death by his Papa Bennie Lomeli and grandma, Joan York. He is survived by his parents, Charlie and Monica Enstedt; sister and "brother for life", Kelly and Leonardo Leal; grandmother, Emma Lomeli; nieces, Malia and Isla Leal; uncle, Nick Lomeli; cousins, Nick Jr. and Jeff (Stephanie) Lomeli; aunt and Godmother, Kathleen Keon; uncle, Lewis A. Enstedt; Godfather, David Lomeli; numerous aunts, uncles, cousins; dear friend, Billy Rangel; his beloved "Bardale Boyz" crew; numerous friends; his beloved and precious children, Cruz, Lola, Emma, and Bennie, and their mothers, Kim Hansen and Noreena Cramer. A paddle out in his honor at Royal Palms will be announced. A Memorial mass will be offered at Holy Trinity Catholic Church on Friday, March 7, 2014, at 10:00 a.m. Please sign the guestbook at mcnerneysmortuary.com and dailybreeze.com.
