Ramiro Sandoval Obituary
Ramiro (Ray) Sandoval (1944-2014)
Just last Thursday, Ray enjoyed a rousing round of golf with his sons, made all the better by the fact that he handily beat one and lost to the other by only one stroke. He topped it off with a cup of coffee chased by a shot of whiskey and later, a cozy dinner in front of the TV. On April 23rd, he was welcomed to the Great Fairway in the Sky - greeted by his parents, Medardo and Frances and siblings Lupe, Manuel and Gonzalo. Growing up in Los Angeles and thriving in the supportive environment of close family, he graduated from Cathedral High School and Los Angeles Harbor College. He proudly served in the United States Army during the Vietnam War and upon his return, began what became a 30 year career at Chevron refinery in El Segundo. At his recent 70th birthday celebration, Ray emphasized the importance of living it up and not denying oneself life's pleasures. For Ray that meant spending time with his wife of 44 years, Mary Grace (DiBernardo) and their five children Ray, Mary Frances, Patricia, Vanessa and Marc, their spouses, his eight grandchildren, and his siblings Medardo, Maria, and Lucy. Ray loved cigars and brandy, betting the ponies, golfing, time with family and friends, a midnight bowl of ice cream, and a good poker bluff. Not necessarily in that order. He disliked slow play on the golf course, flying, and anything un-American. Not necessarily in that order. His family invites you to join them in a celebration of his life. Rosary and funeral mass will be Monday, April 28th at 10am at Nativity Catholic Church 1447 Engracia Avenue, Torrance. Interment at Green Hills Memorial Park. Ray would prefer that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to the South Bay Police and Fire Memorial Foundation, the USO, the NRA, or Cathedral High School. Not necessarily in that order.
