Bonnie Lee Peacock
Bonnie Lee went to meet her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, on Ascension Day, May 29, 2014, after a brief illness. Born on July 14, 1923, Bonnie was 90 years old. She was predeceased by her husband of 66 years, James Peacock and her parents Roscoe and Sue Barton, of Long Beach. Bonnie was born and raised in Long Beach, graduating from Wilson High in Summer, 1941. She happened to be the only phone operator working on a Sunday morning, Dec. 7, 1941; when everyone wanted to call their families on that fateful day. She became the P.T.A. President at 7th St. Elementary, being awarded a Lifetime Membership Award. She then entered the business world, as Office Manager for Peacock Insurance and Realty. Bonnie was baptized at the First Christian Church of San Pedro, where she served the Lord for over 45 years. She was the unofficial Youth Pastor, along with her husband, for most of the years. Her expertise on the piano will be remembered by all who attended there. She led a wonderful Bible Study in her living room for over 20 years. She was very proud also, of serving the San Pedro Rotary Club, playing the piano for that wonderful organization, and perfect attendance for 17 years. Mother would say how blessed she was to live the last 62 years of her life in the family home on Trotwood Ave. What wonderful neighbors they had. Mom loved to travel with her husband Jim, in the R.V., or flying to Hawaii. She loved her golf gang for a weekly game at Rec. Park and her Garage Sale buddies, Star and Ann, would be at it early every Saturday morning. Bonnie Lee was well known in the community and will be greatly missed by her family and friends. She was a loving Wife, Mother, Grandma and Great-Grandmother. She is survived by her two children; Jim Peacock Jr. (Dora) of San Pedro and Laurie Peacock, of Napa, Calif. She is also survived by five grandchildren; Henri and Aezadi Hirsch; Jeff (Cammie) Peacock and Jennifer (Tim) Kanchl of Huntington Beach, and J.J. Peacock of San Pedro, she leaves 5 great grandchildren to mourn her passing. She also leaves her best friend and companion, Yvonne Shelton, whose love and friendship were so valuable, and special niece Julie Shirley. A private family service will be held on June 4th at Riverside National Cemetery. She will lie next to her beloved husband for eternity. A "Celebration of a Wonderful Life" is planned next month at the family home. All of her friends are cordially invited. Please sign the guestbook at mcnerneysmortuary.com and dailybreeze.com.
