Antonette Grieco Obituary
Antonette Grieco
After a long life filled with loving friendships and cherished memories, Antonette Grieco left behind a legacy of joy and happiness to all who knew her. She was born in the family home on November 28,1931 and family would become her dedication for the remainder of her life. Her passing came suddenly after a short bout with liver cancer on Wednesday, July 23, 2014. In her final weeks, Antonette was comforted by her loving family.
Antonette was a "real" San Pedran, born to Nick and Angelina Grieco, and preceded in death by her parents and brothers, Rocky and Aniello. She is survived by her devoted daughter, Marie (Rene) Trevino; her adoring granddaughters, Natalie Joy and Celeste-Anne Trevino; her loving sisters, Josephine Synstelien and Joy (Rich) Rackemann; her sisters-in-law, Lucy Grieco and Loretta Grieco; her good friend, Gene Barone and numerous nieces and nephews. She will be forever remembered for her giving heart, her zest for life and her radiant smile.
Antonette attended Fifteenth Street School, Dana Junior High School, San Pedro High School (W49) and Harbor College. At the age of 16, she took a part-time job in the office of Nick Trani. By the time she graduated from high school, she became his office manager. Two years later she was promoted to accountant, which she practiced for the next 60 years in her beloved San Pedro.
In 1955, Antonette opened her own accounting and tax preparation business. Over the years, she encouraged her employees to learn the business and become independent.Throughout these years she acquired hundreds of clients and life long friends. Antonette was also devoted to Mary Star and its programs. She served as president of the Saint Anne's society for several years, and she contributed many hours to their activities. Antonette was a devout Catholic with a special devotion to the Blessed Mother.
Above all, Antonette loved her family. She hosted all the holidays and enjoyed sharing her recipes. Cooking for her family made her very happy. Italian cuisine was her specialty but she will be remembered for her New York Style Cheesecake. Her story telling, her laughter and her endless love are the treasures we will remember.
Visitation will be held at McNerney's Mortuary, 570 W. 5th Street, San Pedro, CA on Tuesday, July 29th at 5 pm followed by a Rosary at 7 pm.
