Louis Reed LaMont, Jr.
Louis Reed LaMont, Jr. passed away at his home in Palos Verdes Estates, California on August 10, 2014 from complications of mesothelioma. He was born in San Pedro, California, on December 16, 1935. He attended 15th Street Elementary School, Dana Junior High School, San Pedro High School, and Harbor College before joining Local 13 as a Longshoreman in 1957. While working on the docks, he began a long and successful career in real estate. He began his career at Petros Realty, later becoming a partner at Siegel Realty, and ultimately opening his own real estate company, LaMont Realty, all the while continuing to work for 44 years as a Longshoreman and later as a Marine Clerk for Local 63. Louis had an enthusiastic zest for life. He loved preparing gourmet meals for his family and friends, having coffee with his buddies down at San Pedro Fish Market, attending and providing assistance at Las Candalistas events, traveling, gardening, kayaking, skiing, biking, and being a proud member of the Dalmatian American Club and Dago Bastards. He was forever the entertainer - engaging everyone with his clever jokes and witty stories. He will be missed by everyone whose life he touched. Louis is preceded in death by his parents Louis LaMont Sr. and Lucy LaMont, and his brother John LaMont. He leaves behind his beloved wife Donna, his daughters Debbie (Dan) Scanlon, Cheryl (Khaled) Soliman, and Linnea LaMont, his stepdaughter Shauna (Shawn) Wiest, his stepson John (Esther) Stephenson, his grandchildren Amina (Hazem) Aboul Fadl, Tariq, Jackson, Nicholas, and William, his great granddaughter Jannah, his brother Nick LaMont, and his many nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends. Donations may be made to the Jonsson Cancer Center Foundation at 8-950 Sactor Building, Box 951780, Los Angeles, CA 90095, in memory of Louis R. LaMont for Mesothelioma Research under the direction of Dr. Jay Lee. Visitation will be held on Sunday, 2 - 7 p.m. at McNerney's Mortuary.
