Frederick W. Bollinger December 31, 1925 - July 28, 2014
Frederick William Bollinger was born on December 31, 1925 in Merricourt, North Dakota, to Gottlieb and Johanna Bollinger. He was the 8th of 12 children, and grew up on the family farm. At age 18 he enlisted into the United States Army. Fred later moved to California, working as a "milkman", a realtor, a longshoreman, and a machinist. It was in San Pedro, California, that he met his wife Carol; they were married in 1950. They moved into a brand new home and raised their four children there. Carol passed away in 1983; Fred never remarried. He retired as a machinist from Union 76/Unocal Refinery in 1989 at the age of 64. After retiring Fred skied, skydived, hot-air ballooned, snowmobiled, motorscootered, bicycled, and traveled. He also enjoyed gardening, woodworking, trips with the Anderson Senior Center, spending time with friends at the San Pedro Elks Club and McDonald's, playing cards, and spending time with his family. Fred passed into heaven peacefully on Monday, July 28th, 2014. He was preceded in death by his wife Carol, as well as all of his siblings and their spouses. Fred is survived by his four children Susan (Clyde) Kendzierski, Debbie (Gary) Jacobs, Terrie (Larry) Sebastian, and Don Bollinger; 9 grandchildren, 4 great-grandchildren, and numerous nephews and nieces. A celebration of Fred's life will be held on Sunday, September 7, 2014 at 2:00 p.m. at Bethany Lutheran Church, 4644 Clark Avenue, Long Beach, CA, 90808. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Bethany Lutheran School- Scholarship Fund, or the American Kidney Fund. Please sign the guestbook at www.dailybreeze.com/obits
