August 14, 1939 - July 19, 2014
Donald Wayne Sirvio was born in Detroit, Michigan. Don's grandparents were all from Finland and the Finish culture was an evident influence on his life. From the time Don was 4 years of age, he would redesign cars advertised in the newspaper. Because of Don's talents, he was placed in an all boys' technical high school in Detroit which geared classes to match the needs of the Detroit car companies. Don attended Wayne State University in Detroit and then worked in the automotive industry. Don was always an adventurous explorer and worked a contract job in Albuquerque, New Mexico, where he discovered the better weather of the West. After the contract ended and he returned to Detroit, he started looking for employment in California. After moving to California and working in a few positions, Don took a job at STL, the predecessor to TRW and The Aerospace Corporation. Don bought a house in the South Bay which began his love affair with real estate. Don enjoyed over 40 plus years as a real estate broker in the South Bay. He loved working with clients and enjoyed the ever changing real estate market. In the 1970s, he started Surfside Properties which he headed for a number of years. Don preferred working with clients and joined the Re/Max organization in its first year in California. Don loved people and really enjoyed helping his many clients find their homes or investment properties. Don truly loved his life and the people he met along the way. Don would tell people, "I came to California for the weather and stayed for the people." In lieu of flowers or contributions to an organization, please order a pizza for you and/or your family from Old Venice, Manhattan Beach and enjoy! It is no secret that Don loved pizza and loved it best at Old Venice. There will be a celebration of Don's life with refreshments following on Saturday, September 6, 2014 at 2:00 PM at the Center for Spiritual Living, 907 Knob Hill Avenue, Redondo Beach, CA 90278.
