William (Bill) Mays was born March 28, 1919 in Denver, CO and passed away March 9, 2011. He attended Denver Public Schools and the Colorado School of Mines, graduating in 1942 with a degree in metallurgical engineering. During WWI, he served in the U.S. Navy as an engineering officer with duty in the Aleutians and the Pacific. In 1946 he married Kathryn Miller of Denver, CO and they moved to Amarillo, TX where he was employed by North American Aviation (later became Rockwell). He retired from Rockwell after 23 years of service. His wife Kathryn passed away in December 2003 after 57 years of marriage. He was a lifetime member of the American Society of Mechanical Engineers and the American Society for Metals. Ascension Lutheran Church had been their church home in Rancho Palos Verdes, CA.
