Herminia Almeida "Minnie" Lomeli Obituary
Minnie Lomeli, 91, was granted her angel wings on April 9, 2012. Her final days were spent surrounded by family and friends that Minnie had touched in some small way throughout her very memorable life. Minnie was born September 12, 1920 in Morenci, Arizona to Julian and Natividad Almeida. She came to California at the age of 5 and remained in the San Pedro and Carson areas her entire life. Minnie married the love of her life, Mike P. Lomeli in 1937 and they remained inseparable until Mike's death in 2006. Some memorable facts about Minnie is that she was Miss San Pedro's 16th of September Queen in 1936, she was the first waitress at the La Paloma Restaurant in San Pedro and was a long time member of the VFW Senior Citizen Club as vice president, secretary and treasurer. In her younger years she enjoyed playing baseball and always enjoyed playing Scrabble with her family. Minnie's family was the most important part of her life. Minnie is preceded in death by her parents; brothers, Jose, Frank, Julian; and sisters, Carmen and Elisa. She is survived by her sister, Emma Lomeli; brother, Arturo Almeida; sons, Richard (Roseanne), David (Leticia) and Michael; daughter, Julie Scovel (Greg); 15 grandchildren; 27 great grandchildren; and 7 great-great grandchildren. Viewing will be held on Sunday, April 15, 2012 at McNerney's Mortuary from 1pm to 7pm with Rosary at 7p.m. Funeral Mass will be offered on Monday, April 16 at 10a.m. at Holy Trinity Catholic Church at 1292 W. Santa Cruz, San Pedro with entombment immediately following at Green Hills Memorial Park, 27501 South Western Ave., Rancho Palos Verdes. Reception will be announced at the services.
