Slavka "Sally" Kostich Polovina passed away April 26, 2012 at the age of 81 in San Pedro at her home of many years surrounded by her loving family almost a year after learning that she had terminal lung cancer. Sally was welcomed into this world by her parents, Jovan "John" and Mila Pavlovich Kostich, who both predeceased her, as their first child and only daughter. It was just 11 months later that Sally was joined by her twin brothers, Sam and Bill. Sally spent her early childhood years in the Northern California town of Jackson growing up alongside her cousins who were raised more like siblings within a close-knit Serbian-American community. In 1943 Sally and her family relocated to San Pedro where she attended and graduated from both Dana Jr. High School and San Pedro High School where she developed lifelong friendships that she treasured until the end. Sally's working years spanned over five decades with more than 37 of those years spent in the accounting department of TRW, which is now Northrop Grumman. It was during those working years that she met and married Robert "Bob" Polovina who predeceased her in 1998. Having no children of her own, she became a loving "Teta" to all of her nieces and nephews who were by her side until the very end of her life. Sally is survived by her brother, Sam Kostich, and his two children, Marybeth Pierce and her husband, Roy and Sam A. Kostich and his wife, Cathy, and their respective families who, along with many other family members, all reside in Northern California. Sam's wife of many years, Marie, and his son, John, both predeceased Sally. Sally's also survived by her brother, Bill Kostich, sister-in-law, Norma, and their children, Karin Kostich Guerrero, Steve and Denise Kostich, Cindy and Bob Marquez, and their respective children. She was also predeceased by her nephew-in-law, Rich Guerrero. Sally's family would like to thank Erudita De Los Santos of Golden Days Senior Care Services, Shirley Bruhl, Coleen Dumenjich and Gary Graham, M.D., all of Providence TrinityCare Hospice, and longtime physician, Thomas J. Duralde, M.D. of Health Care Partners Medical Group, for the loving care they all provided for her. Sally's funeral service will take place Saturday, May 5, at 1:00 p.m. at McNerney's Mortuary Chapel, 570 W. 5th St., San Pedro, CA 90731; (310) 832-8351. Donations in memory of Sally can be made by contacting the
