Hannah Olsen Saville

Hannah was born on June 7, 1925 in North Bergen, New Jersey. She died on June 18, 2012 in Carson, CA. Preceding her to God's side were her parents, Torvald S. Olsen and Selma O. Salvesen, both born in Norway, her brothers, Richard and Thomas and her sister, Helen. Hannah lived in upper New Jersey and Brooklyn, NY and graduated from Bay Ridge High in 1943. She attended Augustana College in Sioux Falls, South Dakota in 1944 and 1945. She left Brooklyn and moved to California in 1949 where she worked at the Naval Ordnance Test Station in China Lake, where she met and married Winthrop Lyon Saville (Win) in March of 1949. She had 5 children: Winthrop III (Wink) born 12/17/49 in Trona, CA; Gail born 12/12/1950 in Los Alamos, NM; Christine born 7/15/1952 in Minneapolis, MN, died 12/9/1952; Kenneth (Ken) born 2/13/1954 in Northfield, MN and Marshall born 4/15/1955 in Murfreesboro, TN. Hannah stayed home with their children and attended El Camino College from 1960 to 1962 and then transferred to Long Beach State College from 1962 to 1965 receiving a BA degree in Elementary Education. She was on the Torrance Library Commission for 10 years and fought to create a library in West Torrance. After many years, Isabel Henderson Library was dedicated. She worked as a Library Assistant from 1/1971 until her retirement 6/1990. She had 9 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren. She traveled extensively throughout the United States and the world, she eventually visited approximately 80 countries! A memorial service will be held on Saturday, July 7, at 11am at Lutheran Church of the Good Shepherd, 21100 Victor Street, Torrance. For more information see http://goo.gl/UwqrE.
