La Verne Moore-Huntoon, a long-time resident of San Pedro, California, passed away on October 3, 2012, at a hospital in Torrance, having previously suffered a stroke. After her stroke, La Verne was lovingly cared for by her long-time friend from Colorado, Merlin Taylor. La Verne was born in Minnesota on April 27, 1926. She was married for 26 years to Donald Huntoon, who passed away in 2011. She is survived by her daughter, Linda Harris, of Hesperia, California; several grandchildren; and her step-daughter, Cindi Galanti, of Catalina Island. La Verne had a career in the medical field as an x-ray technician. An avid world traveler, she lived in many countries, while her engineer husband was building air-strips and numerous hotels throughout the world - most notably the "Top of Waikiki" Hotel in Honolulu, Hawaii. They lived in Honolulu, Hawaii, for many years. La Verne had a remarkably generous spirit, always ready and willing to give a helping hand to others less fortunate, or anyone undergoing difficulties in life. She was a long-time member of the San Pedro United Methodist Church. In lieu of donations or flowers, please honor La Verne's spirit by doing "random acts of kindness" in her memory.
