Longtime longshoreman and San Pedro native, David T. Ross, Sr., passed away on Saturday, October 27, 2012 after fighting with pancreatic cancer for over a year. David is survived by his wonderful wife of 35 years, Christina Rita Ross and his son, David T. Ross, Jr. He grew up on First St., raised by his father, Frank D. Ross and Gilda Teresa Ross, along with seven siblings. David attended Bandini Street School, Dana Middle School and San Pedro High School. David was a part of the United States Army during the Vietnam era after finishing high school. He had long been a hardworking man and served as a laborer for many decades. David had been a part of the ILWU Local 13 for 25 years, serving as a crane operator. Mr. Ross was loved by many people and was well-known in San Pedro, especially as being one of the ILWU sergeant's in arms for the "Bloody Thursday" events. David was preceded in death by both parents, along with two brothers. Visitation will be held at McNerney's Mortuary located in San Pedro on Sunday, November 4, 2012, 1-6 p.m. with a vigil service at 6:00 p.m. The funeral Mass will be offered at Holy Trinity on Monday, November 5 at 10:00 a.m., followed by interment at Green Hills Memorial Park.
