The Guest Book is expired.
Alvin William North gently passed away November 5, 2012 at his home in Gardena. He was born on March 23, 1931 to William H. "Cap" North and Nora Ida Johnson North. A native Californian, Al spent his childhood in Biggs, California before moving to Salt Lake City, Utah, where he graduated from East High School. In 1948 he met the light of his life, Beverly Holton, while she was working at the nearby Cummings Drive-In. They were married for 63 years. After his service in the Navy during the Korean War, the young family relocated to Southern California where they raised their son, Roger. Al began working for Hughes Aircraft Company in 1956, where he was entrusted with a multitude of high security clearance tasks. He also purchased a gas/service station in Lawndale in 1969 where he was able to put many of his other incredible skills to use. Al was also an accomplished engineer, draftsman, mechanic and woodworker. He thrilled to tinker away in his garage creating things for himself, but most often fixing things for others. An avid outdoorsman, he enjoyed fishing and hunting. He also loved to ride and collect motorcycles, build model trains and airplanes, and crisscross the continent behind the wheel of his motorhome. Al also had a thumb as green as imaginable, growing and cultivating his vast, beautiful and productive gardens. A firm and faithful member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Alvin's greatest joy of all came through his service and love for his family and the Lord. Al is survived by his wife, their son, and three grandchildren, Ryan, Aaron and Meagan. Funeral services will be held Friday, November 9, 2012 at 11:00 a.m. at the Torrance North Stake Center, 2000 W. Artesia Blvd., Torrance, CA 90504. Interment will follow at Green Hills Memorial Park, 27501 South Western Avenue, Rancho Palos Verdes, CA 90275. Please sign the guestbook at www.amgamby.com.
