Douglas George Dethlefsen
Dr. Douglas George Dethlefsen, of Rancho Palos Verdes, was born on April 21, 1923 in Watsonville, CA. He was a beloved father, grandfather, uncle and friend who entered into eternal life suddenly on Oct. 30, 2012 at the age of 89. Doug is preceded in death by the love of his life and wife of 44 years, Middy; and his son, Doug. He is survived by his daughter, Karen, her husband and four children; and his daughter-in-law, Cyndi and her two children. He earned the highest rank of Eagle Scout in the Boy Scouts and was a leader for many years for his son's troop. He loved to surf and snow ski, and enjoyed many family ski trips even to the age of 82. He stayed involved in all of his grandchildren's activities and loved spending time with his friends. He served as a Lieutenant in the
, received a B.S. and M.S. Degree in Electrical Engineering from Cal Tech, a Degree of Engineering from Stanford, and his Ph.D. in Engineering from
. He worked as an Engineer for over 40 years, most of that time in the aerospace industry, and was a professor for Cal State Fullerton. After retirement Doug and Middy enjoyed a lot of traveling and cruises together. A visitation will be held from 4-8pm on Thurs., Nov. 15 at Green Hills Memorial Park. The funeral service will be held at 1pm on Fri., Nov. 16, in the Chapel at Green Hills, 27501 S. Western Ave., RPV. Immediately after the service there will be a brief graveside service, followed by a reception held in Carlson Hall at Rolling Hills Covenant Church, 2221 PV Dr. North, Rolling Hills Estates. Since education meant so much to Doug, a special account has been set up for helping with the college education of his grandchildren.
