Bud Armstrong Obituary
Bud William Armstrong
10/31/1959 - 3/15/2013
Bud passed away on March 15th, 2013 at the age of 53 after a long battle with brain cancer. He was surrounded by his loving wife Jennifer of 27 years and his children, Nicole (26), Jonathan (24), Kelsey (20) and Cody (16) as he peacefully began his journey home to be with his Lord and Savior. As one of eight children, Bud grew up in a loving household in San Pedro. His mother and father raised him to be a hardworking, caring, and gentle young man. At the age of 18, Bud began installing carpet and learning the flooring business from his father. He worked as an independent installer performing custom carpet work until 1986. After obtaining his Contractors License for floor covering he decided to undertake a new challenge by starting his own business. Anyone who knew Bud can speak to his dedication and perseverance not seen in many businessmen. So in 1986 he established Island Carpet Cleaning with Jennifer answering phones and Bud working in the field and devoting himself to his customers. With the success of this business, Bud and Jennifer set a new goal for themselves and in 1993 they opened their first retail store, Island Floor Covering in San Pedro. Upon this success an additional store was opened in Lomita, where Island Floor Covering and Bud's dream remain in place. His business was always family-run with all of his children working for him at some point, which made Bud extremely proud. Bud devoted himself every day to be the most honest and professional man in servicing his customers as they became part of his family. Bud loved to cook and everyone loved to eat his meals, something he undoubtedly learned from his mother. He was on a bowling league for 15 years and even bowled a 300 game. His greatest passion which he found later in life was playing golf and the proudest day he had golfing was when he shot a hole-in-one. He made everlasting friends on the golf course that were there for him in every aspect of his life. Bud was the epitome of an honorable, loving, caring, giving, devoted and hardworking man. These traits showed in his life every day. His faith in the Lord Jesus was his foundation, his business was his love, his family was his life. Bud was predeceased by his father John and his brothers, Bill Bryant and Eddie Bryant. He is survived by his mother Winnie, his brother John Bryant (Rusty), his sisters, Ann Palacios, Donna Pattison (Bill), Debbie Jabuka and Jackie Armstrong, as well as numerous nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in his name to the National Brain Tumor Society (www.braintumor.org). Visitation will be held Thursday, March 21st, 4:00pm to 7:00pm at McNerney's Mortuary in San Pedro. Funeral service will be held on Friday, March 22nd at 11:00am at Rolling Hills Covenant Church, 2222 Palos Verdes Dr. North, Rolling Hills Estates. Burial to follow at Green Hills Memorial Park, Rancho Palos Verdes. Please sign the guestbook at mcnerneysmortuary.com or dailybreeze.com.
