John was born in Harrisburg, PA on December 8, 1923. He departed this world on March 12, 2013 at 89 years old. He grew up during the Depression learning the value of work and depending on himself for survival. He joined the US Army in 1942 stationed in Europe he was assigned to the 265th Ordinance Evacuation Company. He was honorably discharged in 1946. John went to work as an apprentice learning the skills of a tool and die maker. He started his career at the AMP in Harrisburg. While in Harrisburg, John met and married his wife, Lucille Powell in 1954. They eventually moved to the Cleveland area in 1954 where he worked for GM and Fisher Body. Three of their children (John, Denise, Donald) were born there. The family moved to Los Angeles in 1959. In 1960 the family bought and moved into a home in Hawthorne where their fourth child, Donna, was born. John lived there for the remainder of his life. John held jobs with different aerospace companies including Douglas Aircraft and Hughes Aircraft. He retired in 1986 from Hughes Aircraft. John was active with Indian Guides and Little League in the 1960's. He bought an old salmon fishing boat and went on numerous fishing trips with his family and relatives. He liked rock collecting and made numerous bolo ties. He took several trips to Europe with his wife, Lucille. John lived close to many of his family members and he often went on trips and outings with them. John is survived by his sister, Dorothy Henry of Harrisburg, Pa.; three children, John (Sandy), Denise (Paul), Donna (Doug); nine grandchildren, Kristen, Katie, Kimberly, John, Brian, Michelle, Richard, Danielle, David, Erica, and three great grandchildren, Riley, Jake and Tanner. John was preceded in death by his wife, Lucille; his brother, Jim; sister, June and his parents, James and Elizabeth. Services will be held on Saturday, April 6, 2013 at 10am at the Calvary Presbyterian Church, 13560 Hawthorne Bl,. Hawthorne, Ca. 90250. Please sign the guestbook at www.dailybreeze.com/obits.
