My mom, Betty Mallery, was 1of the founding members of MBHS along with Wilmer. She spoke of Wilmer often and his contributions to the city history. we kids of hers got the MBHS newsletters and would attend some of their gatherings. He was a regular contributor both by giving tours and to newsletter content by his actions. Thank you Drake family. He was a special man and 1 I remember!!

Deepest Sympathy to the entire family.
We were so lucky to have known him. He was always happy and fun to be around.
He was truly one of Manhattan Beach greatest historians.

Wil would just stop by and visit on one of his walks and talk Manhattan Beach, Baseball or whatever. He never had a bad word to say about anyone and gave his time unselfishly to kids always. Anyone who spent any time with him will think fondly and never forget Little League, Beef Jerky, Trout Fishing or Cantalopes(he would paint them white and replace the softballs with them)The best Little League coach knows that for most kids this will be their only exposure to organized sports, Wil made sure it was a Great experience. My brothers and I all had the great fortune of playing for him....God Bless You Mr. Drake...Bob,Mark,Dan,Paul and Leslie Seus (Beavers 1968-1973)

Mr. Drake was my neighbor and Little League coach when I was 8-9 years old and my older brothers' coach before that (37 years ago). He was always friendly and kind and still remembered my name some 30 years later when I saw him on one of his long walks around town. My condolences to the entire family - he was a great person to know!

What a loss for the Historical Society and the city. Very dedicated to the city's history. Heard many stories of Wilber over the years. He will be missed. Daughter of Betty-Jane Mallery who already went off to her next great adventure!!
