Fred Ronnie Grant

Born May 26, 1937 in Winston-Salem, North Carolina, Fred Ronnie Grant passed away peacefully at his home with family by his side on June 22, 2013. Fred was a 50 year plus resident of the South Bay area where he moved from Norfolk, Virginia. He served in the Army from 1960 to 1963. He then decided to get into the sheet metal field and was with the Sheet Metal Workers Union Local 105 with whom he worked for 25 plus years until his retirement in 1993. Although he retired, he was still working hard and pushing the limits until his illness got the best of him. He never really slowed down. He loved classic cars and was in the process of restoring a 1962 Ford Convertible Thunderbird and a 1948 Cushman Scooter. He also has a 1970 Chevrolet Chevelle in his collection, which he had completed restoration on a few years ago. He helped fuel his grandson Kyle's love of classic cars as well. Fred is preceeded in death by his father, Henry William Grant and mother, Mae Arminda Grant both of Virginia and wife, Carol Janet Grant. He is survived by daughter, Vicki Condit, son-in-law, Tom and grandson, Kyle, all of Torrance, daughter, Teresa Nicole Cox; grandson, Ricky and granddaughter, Krista, all of Florida; sister, Louise (Earl) Gardner of South Carolina; brother, Ray Grant and sister, Fay (Mel) Hall, both of Virginia; baby brother, Roy Grant of Gardena, and dozens of nieces and nephews. Fred was the oldest of his brothers and sisters. Fred will be deeply missed by family and friends but he lived life the way he wanted and he left this world as he wanted. He did not want a memorial service, therefore, in honor of his wishes, no services will be held. Arrangements will be made in the near future to remember Fred at the home of his daughter, Vicki (Fred never said anything about not having a party!).
