Nathaniel "Nate" James Riddick

After a long and outstanding journey of life, on the morning of August 13, 2013, our loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather Nathaniel (Nate) James Riddick, at the age of 92, left his earthly bounds peacefully, to join again with his already-deceased brothers, his sister and his parents, to sit with his Heavenly Father. Born January 25, 1921, in Norfolk, Virginia, to Nathaniel James Riddick, Sr. and Carrie (Dixon) Riddick, "Nate" (as everyone fondly knew him by) was a man who had several fulfilling careers during his lifetime. He was a U.S. Navy as well as a U.S. Army veteran, having served his country almost 30 years during WWII, the Korean Conflict and into the Vietnam era. He was the last living US Army Band Master. Nate also served as a Korean translator while stationed in Korea. He was also Assistant Director of the CSULB campus police department. A Carson resident since 1967, he served on the Carson Citywide Advisory Committee, as the Chairman of the Senior Citizens Housing Committee and as a Parks and Recreation Commissioner since 1993. Also on the California Senior Legislature as Speaker of the House for the State Assembly. He also served as Chairman of the Los Angeles County Commission on Aging. A member of the National Association of Negro Musicians, the Friends of Taiwan, Nate was also a member of the Prince Hall Grand Lodge of Free and Accepted Masons. Nate was married to his wonderful wife Eleanor ("Ellie") for more than 68 years. He was a man that touched many lives. May he Rest in Peace. Survived by: Eleanor Romayne Riddick (wife), sons Robert Riddick (wife Helen), Michael Riddick (wife Arlene), Richard Riddick, daughters Joyce Perkins, Brenda Riddick, Melissa Carew, Eleanor Riddick-Parham (Phillip), 16 grandchildren, and 12 great-grandchildren. Predeceased by: Nathaniel James Riddick, Sr (dad), Carrie Dixon-Riddick (mom), brothers Ernest, Charlie, Samuel, John, Moses, Sidney and David, and his sister Carrie. Services: Wednesday, 8/21/2013 at Carson Community Center (near City Hall) 801 E. Carson Street, Carson, Ca. 90745 - followed by Full Military Honors at 1:45 pm in Riverside National Cemetery, 22495 Van Buren Blvd, riverside, Ca. 92518. In Lieu of Flowers: Nathaniel J.
