Newton Willard
Young, Jr.

Newton Willard Young, Jr., passed away August 10, 2013 at the age of 85. Born in Inglewood, CA on June 6, 1928, he attended Inglewood High School and then served in the Korean War as a United States Marine. After serving, he attended and graduated from Pepperdine University, where he met his wife, Evelyn. Shortly thereafter, he moved to Torrance, CA, where he resided for over 50 years. Upon retiring from his job as a probation officer, he became very active in local politics, mainly as a city and school board "watch dog", initiating many projects for the betterment of his neighborhood and the city. Newton worked tirelessly for the causes he believed in and was never afraid to voice his opinion. Favorite activities included sailing, cooking, running marathons and traveling the world with Evelyn. He was an avid gardener, who grew delicious tomatoes. Newton loved his country, and was a loving husband, father and grandfather. He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Evelyn; daughter, Colleen Teles; son, Mark; grandchildren, Robb, Scott, Max, Sam and Brooke; brothers, William and James Young; and sister, Carol Burns. Newt's enthusiasm and community involvement will always be remembered and he will be deeply missed. Please sign the guest book at
