Mathew Thomas Barth
Born December 20, 1946 to October 16, 2013, passed away after a courageous battle with chronic lymphocytic leukemia. Matt was born in Los Angeles and spent his entire life there except for a few years near Reno, NV. He graduated from Junipero Serra High School, Gardena. After studying drafting at El Camino College he worked at Northrop Grumman Corporation, Gardena. Later he worked in the restaurant/entertainment industry and eventually became a building contractor and served as construction superintendent for JH Reconstruction Services. He was a true outdoorsman enjoying hunting, fishing, boating,waterskiing and camping. He won a world championship in power boat racing in 1974. He survived both motorcycle and race boat crashes which left him with a permanent leg injury. Despite this, he was known for his humor and strength.Matt is predeceased by his parents, Roy J. Barth and Rose Migliaccio Barth and his brother, Robert Barth. He is survived by his former wife, Janice Barth and his adult children, Angela James and Paulette Hansen and four grandchildren. He also leaves his partner Meg Gaekle, his sister, Susan Appel and five nieces and nephews in addition to many aunts, uncles and cousins in the Barth and Migliaccio families as well as his "second family" the Cahill clan. Memorial Service 10:00am Monday, October 28, St. Lawrence Martyr Catholic Church, Redondo Beach
