In Remembrance of Cruz M. Gutierrez
Cruz M. Gutierrez, second son of Florencio and Victoriana Gutierrez was born May 3, 1928 in Jerome, Arizona and passed away on February 5, 2014 surrounded by his loving family. He was a long time resident of San Pedro, CA. Cruz is survived by his one true love, his wife of 63 years, Anita; his five beloved children, Linda (Ric) Signoretti, Anna (George) Walko, Debra (Michael) Carney, Cruz Jr. (Patricia) Gutierrez and Isabel (Oscar) Gutierrez; eighteen loving grandchildren and ten beautiful great-grandchildren. Cruz was raised in Jerome, AZ. He enlisted in the US Navy in 1948, serving our nation until 1962. He was a Boilerman First Class (BT1) and was awarded the United Nations Service Medal, Korean Service Medal and Navy Occupational Service Medal. After completing his military service Cruz worked in construction in Santa Barbara, CA. In 1969 he relocated his family to San Pedro, CA. where he secured employment with IT Services and retired after 24 years. During retirement Cruz remained busy by working part time for World Port Casting Corp. Cruz was a longtime member of The Jerome Verde Valley Club, Elks Lodge 966, VFW Post #2967 and the Toberman Seniors Club. He enjoyed attending Annual Jerome Club reunions, dancing, boxing and spending time with his family and numerous friends. Cruz was a preceded in death by his parents Florencio and Victoriana Gutierrez, brother Luis Gutierrez, sister Mary Munoz, sister Josefina Encinas, grandson Michael S. Gutierrez, great-grandson Mason Richard Durazo A celebration of life was held for Cruz on February 12, 2014 at Outpost Ministries, 1491 O'Farrell Street, San Pedro, CA. Pastor Cruz Gutierrez, Jr. presided. A final farewell service for Cruz was held at his graveside, Green Hills Memorial Park, RPV, CA. An American flag draped over Cruz's casket as a reminder of his military service and his fellow comrades from VFW Post 2967 executed a full Honor Guard memorial. The folded flag and other mementos were presented to Cruz's beloved Anita. Cruz was devoted to his wife, children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He was a source of strength, encouragement, love and laughter. The tears in our eyes, we can wipe away but the ache in our hearts will always stay.
