Anthony Michael Accetta
Anthony Michael Accetta was born in San Francisco on February 18, 1920 to Alessandro and Rosalia Accetta, and grew up in St. Louis, Missouri. During
, he served four years in the Marine Corps and was stationed in the Pacific on the islands of Guam, the Philippines, and New Caledonia. After the war, Tony and his wife Josephine moved to California and were long time residents of San Pedro. They became the parents of eight children: Donna, Mary Jo, Kathy, Lia, Alex, Terri, Tony, and Gus. In 1978, he and his wife, Jo, moved to Huntington Beach. The family continues to grow with 17 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren. For 33 years he worked in the Aerospace industry as a key engineer for North American/Rockwell. He was a division manager on all the manned space flight programs from the first Project Mercury flights to the launching of the Space Shuttle. Recognition for his dedication to the Space Program include citations from NASA along with personal letters from the astronauts thanking him for his innovative contributions that are still being used today. When his wife passed away in 1995, he remained active in Surf City Senior Citizens, traveling and helping other seniors. In the last few years of his life, it was obvious that he was ready to return to the arms of his wife. She was the love of his life and those feelings never changed. On June 8, 2014, in his home, surrounded by his family, after the last decade of the Rosary was said, Tony peacefully joined his Josephine in Heaven. We celebrate and rejoice that they are together again.
Visitation will be held Monday, June 16, from 6:00-8:00pm at Dilday Mortuary in Huntington Beach. Funeral Mass will be Tuesday, June 17, 10:00am at Sts. Simon and Jude Church in Huntington Beach. Internment will be at Green Hills Memorial Park following the Funeral Mass. Please sign the guestbook at
