Gilbert Guerra Obituary
Passed away on Thursday, June 19, 2014, with his family by his side. Gilbert was born on April 2, 1950 in Torrance. He was a lifetime resident of San Pedro. He attended Park Western Elementary School, Dodson Junior High School and San Pedro High School. He was an original member of the band "The Topics" and played rhythm/lead guitar. He coached Pony League baseball for many years at Peck Park for the San Pedro Boy Sports Association. He was a member/longshoreman of ILWU Local 13 for the last twenty five years until his recent retirement. Gilbert is survived by his parents, Gilbert and Virginia Guerra Sr.; daughters, Laura Marie and Lisa Marie; sister, Patricia (Larkin) York; brothers, Anthony (Susan) Guerra and Joseph Guerra; His Godfather, Jalomo "Nino" Romero; his Godmother, "Nonie" Scheve; and several aunts, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Visitation will be held on Sunday from 1 - 6 p.m. followed by a rosary at 6:00 p.m at McNerney's Mortuary Chapel. A funeral mass will be offered on Monday, June 30, 2014, 10:00 a.m. at Holy Trinity Church, 1292 W. Santa Cruz St., San Pedro, CA 90731 followed by interment at Green Hills Memorial Park. Dear Dad,
It has been nearly one year that you have passed into a new journey. Your birthday just passed, April 2. You would have been 65.
The journey is difficult for me but I have a strength in knowing that God works all things together for His Good.
A strong story always carries within it's pages, a storm but my faith, calms the winds that try to drown me.
I begin law school in a few months, Dad. I want to help others in this life. I want to open the eyes and conscious of many. Dad, you will be proud.
I love you Dad and miss you terribly.

Thinking of you Dad. Gosh, time goes by so fast, yet so slow at the same time, sometimes. I know that you are now in Heaven, with God, the Father, all the angels, surrounded by Paradise Gates 'Streets of Gold.' What a journey! Nearly a year later, this journey. How this journey travels both quickly and slowly at the same time, sometimes. Miss you Dad!

I am going to miss my father,Gilbert Guerra JR dearly,but I know that he is with God now.I will always cherish the wonderful memories that I had with him growing up in San Pedro with my mom and sister Laura for as long as I live.I will always remember the fun times I had with him as a little girl at our trips to Knott's Berry Farm and going on all the rides together as a father and daughter.
