This tribute still brings tears to my eyes. I wish I had known her personally. But I am glad I was able to read her short stories as they appeared in magazines. My heart goes out to all her loved ones on the anniversary of her passing. Stardust!

Dear loved ones of Thomaline Aguallo, I want to express my condolences. As a young woman, I read Thomaline Aguallo's stories in Good Housekeeping and treasured them. I am not surprised that in actual life she was loved by you for her "wit and compassion" and that "her heart and home were always open." I will play "Stardust" and hug someone close in her honor, as close as I hug her characters in my heart. Yours, Lori Mulligan Davis, Wheaton, Illinois

"Please do not look behind you,
But know in your heart
That every day she'll wait there,
And she'll be prepared to take you home.
The good of heart will be blessed by fate,
And the patient will have the shorter wait."
We've only just learned of Tommi's passing. May she grace the heavens as brilliantly as she graced the earth.

Dearest Russ,
My heart broke when Paul told me the saddest news; the blessing of knowing your precious mate was not mine, but I know yours was a lifelong love affair. I shall hug each loved one a little longer and tell them more often that I love them, and remember you. Please let Paul know when the picnic is and I shall send him directly to your place. (801) 644 4133 is my cell.
With love and prayers for comfort,

Dear Buchan Family:
I was so deeply saddened to learn from Tommi's mother, my Aunt Della, about Tommi's sudden and untimely passing. I pray that, with time, your loving memories of Tommi will help heal your present heartache.
With deepest sympathy,

Russ, Rach, & Russell,
I was shocked and devastated to hear of Tommi's passing. I will miss seeing her out watering the roses, when we would have our little catching up chit chats. As a teenager I fondly remember the time I spent in your warm, loving, and unique home. There was no place like it! Tommi had a great influence on me, especially my lifelong obsession with Frida Khalo. Such an amazing, talented, and kind woman - she will be greatly missed, but the memories I shall always cherish. My love and condolances to all who knew and loved her.
peace & love, steph

Dear Russ,
My cousin just sent me Tommi's obituary and I am stunned and very sad.
Tommi and I were best friends and nearly inseparable at 15th Street School. We would walk home together -- she lived on 9th St. just below Mary Star and I would go to my grandmother's on 12th St. I have a picture of many of us at my 11th birthday party, and other pictures from our junior high days.
I moved from San Pedro in 1959 and don't believe I ever saw her again (did she go to any of our HS reunions?), but I always had her in my heart, and like many things I meant to do, I didn't get in touch with her. I knew she was a writer and always looked for her stories in Good Housekeeping.
Now my heart is breaking for your great loss and my loss of not knowing her for all these years as well.
I was glad to see that you have a large and loving family, and I knew that Tommi would always have many good friends.
Please give my sympathy to Tommi's mother Della whom I also remember very fondly.
I didn't know she loved "Stardust", but I don't think I will ever hear it again without thinking of her.
With deepest sympathy,
Yana Reskusich Packard

Dear Russ,
My sincere condolences to you and your family on Tommie's passing. I know you must be devastated and my heart goes out to all of you. Russ, we went to SPHS together and then I met Tommie at Harbor College and Delta's the first year I was there. Tommie was a very kind and wonderful person with a wonderful sense of humor. Tommi, I never had the pleasure of meeting you. Nevertheless, you still touched my life. You raised a wonderful and caring daughter, Rachel, who is one of my closest and best friends. She would always tell me about you and her dad, Russ. I was always envious because I thought she had the coolest parents ever. The news of your illness and passing affected me deeply, as I know it did everyone that knew you. Thank you for being such a wonderful mother, wife and friend.

Russ, Rachel & Russell, this is Jen, Rachel's best friend from school days. I thought Tommi was so amazing, and I remember how cute she kept the apt. across from Joseph's Bakery! She was so hip, & dressed "hippie-chic", before the fashion world had a name for it! Rachel, your swwetness and WICKED sense of humor are your beautiful Mom's legacy. Please let me know about picnic. I'm going to plant some beautiful vegies & flowers in my yard in her honor. All my love,
Jennifer (Peacock) Kanehl

Tommie, "Mr. Bruce" told me he will greatly miss those occasional lucky handouts when he'd see you at your picnics but like all of us, he will wait patiently to see you when we are all reunited. I will never forget your fabulous stories of when you and Russ lived at the San Pedro "Castle" and how you'd share your life stories and speak of books you'd read. A life WELL lived - see you at the park when I walk Bruce cause I know you will never be far away - you're just on an extended tour.
