PIQUA — Alvena H. Thornton, 94 of Piqua, died at 10:55 a.m. Saturday June 14, 2014, at the Rosedale Green Nursing Home of Covington, Ky. She was born June 28, 1919, in Covington, to the late Harrison and Catherine (Roecker) Adams. She married George J. Thornton March 28, 1948 in Piqua; he preceded her in death April 1, 1995.
Survivors include a daughter, Karen (Ronald) Brown-Crider of Independence, Ky.; two grandsons, Chad (Gina) Brown, Ryan (Jasmine) Brown all of Atlanta, Ga.; four great-grandchildren; and a brother, Herbert Adams of Miamisburg. She was preceded in death by three brothers and three sisters.
Mrs. Thornton attended Covington schools and in addition to being a wonderful homemaker, she was a seamstress at the former Flo's Drape Shop of Piqua. She is a member of Greene Street United Methodist Church. She loved music as evidenced by her being a pianist and joining her sister, Bertha Blythe, playing guitars traveling around entertaining groups as the Ohio Sweet Hearts.
A service to honor her life will begin at 10:30 a.m. Friday, June 20, 2014, at the Jamieson & Yannucci Funeral Home with the Rev. Fr. Francis Keferl officiating. Burial will follow at Forest Hill Cemetery. Visitation will be from 9:30-10:30 a.m. Friday at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to one's favorite charity.
