PIQUA — Calvin C. "Buz" Garton, 67, of Piqua, died at 7:42 a.m. Tuesday, March 25, 2014, at Upper Valley Medical Center, Troy. He was born Jan. 17, 1947, in Watonga, Okla., to the late Carlton J. and Patricia Ann (Beals) Garton. He married Judith A. Thiel on May 20, 1967, in Portales, N.M.; she survives.
Other survivors include a son, Calvin G. "Jerry" Garton of Watonga, Okla.; a daughter, Rose (Michael) Schmidt of Piqua; two grandchildren, Jessica (Eli) Stover, and Michael Jennings; two great-grandchildren, Milee and Maranatha; and a brother, Roy Garton of Palm Bay, Fla.
Calvin served in the U.S. Air Force as an aircraft mechanic during the Vietnam War. After being honorably discharged from the service, he worked various jobs throughout the west, including 17 years at the Snow King Resort in Jackson Hole, Wyoming. Buz was a member of Madison Avenue First Church of God and was an animal lover. He enjoyed walking his dog, Precious, and especially loved the time spent with his family and grandchildren.
A memorial service to honor his life will be conducted at 11 a.m. Saturday, at the Madison Avenue First Church of God, Piqua, with the Rev. Scott Stremmel officiating. Full military honors will be provided by the Veterans Elite Tribute Squad. Visitation will be from 10-11 a.m. Saturday at the church.
