Catherine Neth "Kitty" Church

PIQUA — Catherine "Kitty" Neth Church, 77, formerly of Piqua and Glendale, more recently of Paradise Valley, Ariz., passed away Friday, Jan. 10, 2014, at her residence in Arizona. She was born Oct. 14, 1936, in Piqua to the late Dr. Robert G. and Jane L. (Spencer) Neth. She married William D. Edwards Jr., who preceded her in death. She married John F. Church on April 10, 1974.

Survivors include a daughter, Jane E. and her husband Michael Pitcock of Piqua; two grandsons, Quinn and Jafe Pitcock; a brother, Spencer Neth and his wife Marjorie Kitchell of Cleveland; and three nephews, Sam, Adam and Alex Neth.

Mrs. Church was a graduate of Piqua Central High School and attended Miami University in Oxford. While in Piqua, she was a partner in the former Neth and Stelzer Clothing Store, co-founded and managed Noah's Ark Nursery School at St. James Episcopal Church, served as the Treasurer of the Fine Arts Foundation, co-founded the Meals on Wheels program, having also served as its Treasurer, and was a member of Westminster Presbyterian Church, Fortnightly Club, Piqua Country Club, and Piqua YWCA, and served on its Board of Trustees. Following her marriage to John F. Church, they moved to Glendale, where she lived for 23 years. While in Glendale she was a member of the Garden Club, the Community Foundation Board of Trustees, the Lyceum Club, the Lunch and Learn Club, the Dayton Country Club and the Dayton Polo Club. She then moved to Paradise Valley Arizona. She was actively involved in successfully managing a business during much of her lifetime. She traveled widely and met with many of the prominent political figures of her time. Everywhere she lived, she was loved by all.

She briefly attained fame in 2007 when she was interviewed on national television before the national college football championship game, in which her grandson was playing for Ohio State. The newspapers the following day all said "she stole the show."

Her family will receive friends from 4-7 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 1, 2014, at the Ft. Piqua Plaza. Memorial contributions may be made to the Piqua Community Foundation, P. O.
