GREEVILLE — Dennis L. Meeks, 55, of Greenville, passed away Monday, Dec. 30, 2013, at 8:50 a.m. at the State of the Heart Hospice Care Center. He was born Oct. 4, 1958, in Troy, to the late Austin Eugene and Dorothy (May) Meeks.
Dennis is survived by Patricia (Hayes) Meeks of Greenville; daughters, Kristen Meeks and Megan Meek of Greenville; sister and brother in law, Cheryl and Bryce Allmon of Knoxville, Tenn.; nieces and nephews, Sean Hayes, Sherry Price, Patrick Hayes, Brett Allmon, Ashley Craft and Alex Allmon.
He was a teacher at Arcanum Schools for 22 years before retiring from Patrick Henry after 5 years. He was a member of the Sugar Creek Church of the Brethren in Lima, Ohio, Greenville Masonic Lodge 143, past president of the Darke County Ohio State Alumni Association, and was named twice in the Who's Who Among American Teachers. He loved traveling, reading and scuba diving.
In addition to his parents he is preceded in death by his son, Andrew Lloyd Meeks; and brother, Kenneth Meeks.
The family will receive friends from 5-8 p.m. Friday, at Zechar Bailey Funeral Home, Greenville. The Greenville Lodge will conduct a Masonic Memorial Service on Friday at 7:45 p.m. at the funeral home. There will be a private graveside service held at the convenience of the family at Abbottsville Cemetery, Darke County. A celebration of life will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, at Oakland Church of the Brethren, 8058 Horatio Harris Creek Rd., Gettysburg, with Pastor Ralph Royse and Pastor Nick Beam co-officiating. Family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at church.
