Donald E. Richard

BRADFORD — Donald E. Richard, 81, of Bradford, passed away at his home Wednesday, Dec. 25, 2013. Don was born in Bradford on Sept. 11, 1932, to the (late) Harold and Hannah (Carroll) Richard.

He attended Franklin High School, retired with 17 years of service as the Cemetery Sexton for Harris Creek Cemetery, Bradford, retired with 30 years of service from Armco Steel Corp., Piqua;,was a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church and was Parish Council President for years and served on the Festival Committee for more than 30 years. He had been active with the Bradford Resource Center. Don worked with his sons at Don Richard and Sons Concrete for years and was a recipient of the Bradford Lions Club Citizen of the Year Award in 1997.

He was preceded in death by his parents and infant sister, Marlene Richard.

Don is survived by his loving wife of 61 years, Shirley Yvonne (Weider) Richard; two sons and daughters-in-law, David and Deb Richard of Bradford, Doug and Michelle Richard of Covington; four daughters and sons-in-law, Donna and Mark Grusenmeyer of Tipp City, Deb and Jim Meyer of Covington, Diana and Bill Stanze of Bradford, Denise and Mike Tobias of Covington; 12 grandchildren, Missy and Seth Ankrom, Emily and Jason Bridges, Krista and Nate Gibson, Megan Fair, Matt Richard and friend, Alisha Berning, Jarod Meyer, T.J. and Rachel Fair, Heather and Jordy Burelison, Holly and Jordan Monnin, Andrea and Grant Westfall, Donovan Richard and Sydney Richard; 13 great-grandchildren, Madison and Katie Ankrom, Caden and Presley Bridges, Joshua, Kamryn and Jackson Gibson, Kaylin and Logan Richard, Cody Robinson, Dylan Fair, Matilyn and Alayna Meyer; two sisters and brother-in-law, Maxine Apple of Russia, Betty and Craig Peltier of Piqua; and other relatives and friends. A Mass of Christian burial will take place at 10 a.m. Monday at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Bradford with Fr. Jim Simons officiating. Interment will be in Harris Creek Cemetery, Bradford. The family will receive friends 5-8 p.m. Sunday at the Stocker-Fraley Funeral Home, Bradford. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Hospice of Miami County.
