PIQUA — Mary A. Schwabenland, 89, of Piqua, died peacefully at 4:10 a.m. Tuesday, March 25, 2014, at her residence. She was born Dec. 30, 1924, in Troy to the late DeWitt and Ruth (Lauber) Hecker. She married Frederick "Dutch" Schwabenland, who preceded her in death in 1973.
Survivors include four children, Judy Cotrell of Piqua, Jerry (Loretta) Schwabenland of Troy, Jane (Allen) Preuss of Piqua, John (Michelle) Schwabenland of Piqua; ten grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; and two great-great- grandchildren. She was preceded in death by two brothers, Jack and Dale Hecker.
Mrs. Schwabenland was a graduate of Troy High School and retired from the housekeeping fepartment of the former Dettmer Hospital. Following her retirement, she remained active spending time with her family and speaking with people about the Bible. She enjoyed playing the piano all of her life. She was an active member of the Piqua Congregation of Jehovah's Witnesses for 63 years.
A memorial service to honor her life will begin at 3:30 p.m. Saturday at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses with Elder Bernie Wilson presiding.
